East Main’s 2025 VBS: A Journey Through Paul’s Example

The halls of East Main were once again filled with the joyous sounds of learning and fellowship as Vacation Bible School commenced from June 8th to 11th, 2025. This year’s theme, “Paul, An Example to Follow,” guided participants through the transformative life of the Apostle Paul, drawing invaluable lessons for Christian living.

Attendance throughout the four nights was truly encouraging. Sunday evening saw 392 individuals gathered, and a strong turnout of 335 on Wednesday evening. The curriculum, centered on Paul’s impactful journey, offered profound insights into key aspects of faith. Lessons explored “Becoming a Christian,” the “Results of Counting the Cost,” the vital work of “Taking the Gospel to the World,” and the ultimate goal of “Finishing the Course”. Each evening was designed to equip attendees with a deeper understanding of these foundational Biblical principles, encouraging them to apply Paul’s dedication to their own lives. As Paul himself wrote in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

A dedicated team of teachers faithfully guided the young minds entrusted to their care. For children aged 4 through 6th grade, instruction was lovingly provided by Marc and Mandy LaCroix, Braxton Weeks and Mary Dooley, Tara LaPointe and Lori Boyd, and Joshua and Karen Knight. The 7th through 12th grade classes benefited from the teaching of Seth Ferguson, Elijah Mayes, Jeffrey Smith, and T.C. Hayes.

The adult class was also greatly blessed by a series of guest teachers from among local preachers each night. We extend our sincere gratitude to Paul Norwood, Jayse Pruitt, James Lively, and Chuck Mullins for sharing their wisdom and insights from God’s Word. Their contributions were a true testament to the unity of the Spirit, as Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to be “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” It was also a particular delight to share an old video featuring Wayne Lankford rapping about Noah, which brought smiles and an engaging, albeit unconventional, way to remember a timeless Biblical account.

Wednesday night brought a delightful close to the VBS, marked by a tradition that truly emphasizes the importance of sharing the Gospel. Three young people were recognized for their commendable efforts in bringing visitors. Gibbs Taylor earned third place by bringing 6 visitors, while Kate Morris secured second place with 7 visitors. The top honor went to Reagan Borras, who brought 8 visitors.

In a continuation of a beloved tradition from last year’s VBS, Reagan, for bringing the most visitors, was awarded the unique privilege of hitting our pulpit minister, Jon Mitchell, in the face with a pie.

It was a moment of lighthearted fun that underscored the joyful spirit of VBS and the commendation for spreading the good news. Indeed, as it says in Proverbs 11:30, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise.”

East Main’s 2025 VBS truly served as a powerful week of spiritual growth, drawing us closer to the example of Paul and, ultimately, to Christ. We are thankful for all who attended, taught, and served, making this event a resounding success for the glory of God.
