Welcome

Welcome to East Main church of Christ, Murfreesboro, TN

The East Main Church of Christ has a long history, having assembled weekly to worship and serve God since the 1830s. We gather for worship each Sunday morning and Sunday evening. In addition to worship, we have weekly Bible classes for all ages on Sunday mornings before our worship service and on Wednesday evenings after a devotional period. At East Main Church of Christ, our aim in all worship, classes, and activities is to please God through obedience to His commandments.

Our worship assemblies follow the pattern of the early church as described in the New Testament. For instance, Acts 20:7 records that Christians met on the first day of the week “to break bread”; accordingly, we meet on the first day of the week to partake of the Lord’s Supper, as Christ commanded us to do in remembrance of Him.

We are also instructed to sing praises in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16. Because vocal praise to God is commanded, and there is no mention of the early church using mechanical instruments, we praise God through song with our voices alone.

Prayer is another important element of our worship service at East Main. Recognizing prayer as a blessing from God, we embrace this great opportunity. The early church “continued steadfastly” in prayer, as noted in Acts 2:42, and so we pray in our worship assemblies at East Main.

Giving is a significant part of our worship. Christians are directed in 1 Corinthians 16:2 to “lay aside” on the first day of the week. Therefore, we take up an offering “as we have prospered” each Sunday to support the work of the Lord. East Main has been greatly blessed, and as a result, we share our financial blessings with missionaries and other evangelistic efforts throughout the United States and worldwide.

A lesson from God’s word is a central part of our worship. Acts 20:7 recounts that the apostle Paul spoke to the church on the first day of the week. At East Main Church of Christ, we understand that the proclamation and study of God’s word is foundational to our faith. As 2 Timothy 2:15 urges, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

We invite you to attend our worship services to honor and glorify our God.
